What is a Chumby? According to the website it’s a wifi device that looks like an alarm clock that shows data via widgets. You can stream RSS feeds to it, read email, weather report etc. Whatever you can make a widget for you can have displayed on the Chumby. They are are shooting for a $150ish retail price.
Samsung’s new P310 GSM phone due out in North America next year. Supports EDGE data, Bluetooth 2.0, 2 Megapixel camera. You can do MSWord, Powerpoint, Excel, and PDF on this bad boy. Also has 80mb of internal memory (which is expandable) and has a Direct TV out option that lets you display video and MP3’s on your home system. And it’s small!
With a Canadian wide HSPDA roll-out this spring maybe I should let this one go………Nah, I still want it!
You can now check in for flights on Air Canada with just your Blackberry. I’ve been playing around with the feature but haven’t used it "for real" yet. It appears to ask you for the same information that the kiosks at the airport ask.
Name Departure City Credit Card Booking Reference
The only part I don’t completely understand is at the kiosks it prints you a boarding pass to show that mean looking lady that pats you down. I’m guessing it gives you your boarding information on the screen or forwards it to the mean looking lady to match with your id.
Great idea to save time. Unfortunately in a post 7-11 world (I miss the Super Big Gulp) there is security issues.
Use your Mobile Device to Check-In: For flights within Canada At least one hour prior to departure Up to 24 hours prior to departure Travelling with no bag To cancel your check-in
I have to admit it. I’ve been guilty of it. I viewed a video or two. I just couldn’t resist. I was also a bit curious. Do you know what I mean? Can you relate? Unboxing videos on Youtube can be so hard to resist. What is the packaging like? What does it come with? European power adapters? Extra Memory? I have to stop. I get all worked up just thinking about it!
Ok here is the weird subculture part. There are sites dedicated to Unboxing videos. That means there is a lot of freaks out there. I don’t know if this is a cool thing or a sad byproduct of a hyper consumerist society.
According to This ABC News article the FBI have the technology to use your cell phone as a bugging device even if your phone is turned off. It is known as the "Rover Bug".
"The FBI can access cell phones and modify them remotely without ever having to physically handle them," James Atkinson
How long until the average hacker figures this out?
I guess in Palo Alto all the Web 2.0 companies have a bowling league! I recognize some faces from Meetro and Wordpress in the video. It looks like Facebook and Skype also have teams. I wonder if they play for money?
This Monty Fool article is going on about the benefits of the localization of Youtube. You could sell things basically is what Rick is saying.
I’m saying big deal. I think the real killer app will be the one that makes it easy for sites like Youtube to go local and be easy to use. An app that could take a site’s like Youtube’s content and leave it places for other people to find. Hyperlinks in physical spots.
Great for Youtube if they go local. Hopefully people make it into something interesting and useful. I’m not sure if I want to know what emo kids singing Fall Out Boy in their bedrooms live around me though.
Anybody who knows me can tell you what I think of localization and the Internet. I think the more the Internet and web apps can adapt to your physical location the more useful they will be to you. I’m not just talking about things like Meetro which is a location based version of MSN. I am also hoping for something more than Google’s Plan to serve you an ad for the Starbucks across the street because your on Google’s free wifi network.
I’m talking about having information change in relation to where you are exactly! I’m talking about having files related to a physical place stored in or around that physical place…..but on the Internet. Make sense? Think I’m nuts? We are working on it. We are going to do it.
